LOWER DIR: Jamaat-i-Islami former chief Sirajul Haq has blasted the Muslim countries for ‘keeping silence’ over the situation in Gaza. He made the remarks while addressing a students’ convention arranged by Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) as the chief guest at government degree college, Gulabad, Adenzai here the other day. Mr Haq asserted that the Muslim countries’ rulers were playing the role of Mir Jaffar and Mir Sadiq. He said the Muslim countries were passing mere resolutions to condemn the Gaza situation, but Israel was relentless in its bombardment of Palestinians. He declared that holding elections in the country was a futile exercise as they often resulted in no good for the people. “A No-Objection Certificate for installation of the prime minister of Pakistan is given by the United States,” he claimed. The JI former chief said both PTI’s jailed leader Imran Khan and prime minister Shehbaz Sharif were waiting for the US president-elect Donald Trump’s telephone call. Mr Haq said students’ unions in educational institutions played key role in strengthening the basic democracy, but regretted the ban on them. He said the federal and provincial governments had failed to address students’ issues. He said the government should restore students’ unions and allow them to hold elections. He said students should equip themselves with the modern knowledge. He said IJT was doing a great job by organising constructive activities to build the capacity of students. On the occasion, IJT Khyber Pakhtunkhwa nazim Dr Waseem Haidar said it would organise a students’ rally on Nov 27 at the Chakdara Interchange, which would be addressed by JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Sirajul Haq and other leaders.
