LAHORE: The Punjab Wildlife Department has seized a rare ‘marsh crocodile’ measuring seven feet in length in Kasur. The crocodile, valued worth millions in the international market, was recovered from illegal possession. A case against the suspect was registered and the crocodile shifted to Gutwala Wildlife Breeding Centre. “Crocodile skin and meat are often sold in international markets, highlighting the ongoing challenge of wildlife smuggling,” Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Wednesday. She said for the first time in Punjab, such extensive measures were being implemented to protect and conserve wildlife. She emphasised that safeguarding animal rights was also a priority, as it plays a critical role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region. Meanwhile in Layyah, environmental authorities dismantled brick kilns that were contributing to pollution and toxic emissions. In Sargodha, raids were conducted on factories burning tyres to produce toxic smoke, resulting in the sealing of four factories. Moreover, 10 illegal brick kilns were demolished in Layyah for violating environmental regulations.
