Man killed as bomb goes off outside his house in Bajaur

BAJAUR: A man was killed when a bomb went off near his house in Gabari area of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur district here on Wednesday. Local people and police officials said that the explosive device was planted along a pathway near the house of Saleem Jan. They said it exploded when Saleem’s elder son, Abdur Raheem, 58, stepped over it. They said that Raheem was critically injured in the explosion and died while being shifted to a local health facility. DSP Hoonar Khan told reporters that a police team was immediately rushed to the locality to find out the nature of the explosion and to trace the people involved. “We have launched an investigation into the incident,” he said. No one claimed responsibility for the explosion. Meanwhile, the police on Wednesday defused explosive devices recovered during different actions in Bajaur district. The devices, including bombs and hand grenades, which had been seized by the police’s bomb disposal squad during several actions, were defused on the orders of the district and sessions judge issued a couple of days ago during the hearing of a case related to the recovered devices, according to a statement. The statement issued from the district police office said that the bombs and grenades were defused in the presence of senior civil judge Mujibur Rahman, district police officer Ziaul Haq and SP investigations Naveed Iqbal.
