GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested an official of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on charges of corruption. According to an FIA spokesman, Line Superintendent Ammar Akbar had been posted in Gujranwala city and was allegedly involved in installation of a meter and an electricity transformer in a locality, Imran Colony, in the city. According to the initial FIA inquiry, the line superintendent had received Rs800,000 for the installation of electricity meter and transformer but did not deposit the amount into Gepco’s account. The spokesman says the action was taken in line with the directions from the federal government and a formal investigation had been launched against the suspect. He added that the drive against the electricity theft and corruption in Gepco had been accelerated in Gujranwala region.
