Multan police have registered a case. A 20-foot wide breach in the Upper Pakpattan Canal reportedly damaged standing crops of maize, fodder and recently cultivated wheat on a vast tract of land at 22 Wala Pul near Vehari city on Wednesday. On being informed of the canal breach, teams of Rescue 1122 and the irrigation department reached the spot and with the help of locals, plugged it after hours-long hectic efforts. According to the affected farmers, the breach was caused due to silting and a lack of proper maintenance of the canal by the irrigation department. They demanded the government should pay financial compensation for their losses.
