Cueists Sultan, Hasnain suffer defeats at Sindh Cup

KARACHI: Former national champion Sultan Mohammad and Mohammad Hasnain Akhtar, the U-21 title winner from July, suffered setbacks on the second day of the 32nd Sindh Cup Snooker Tournament here at the One Ten Snooker Arena on Wednesday. Sultan, a veteran cueist, was handed a 0-3 defeat by Khizar Aziz, while Hasnain lost 2-3 to Mani Memon of the Hyderabad. Despite these early setbacks, both players still have two matches to make a comeback in the league-based tournament. In other matches, Karachi’s Ali Raza breezed past city-mate Umer Saleem 3-0, while Ian Mark John, also from Karachi, edged out fellow Karachiite Javeed Ansari 3-2. In another all-Karachi match, Zulfiqar A. Qadir secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Zunair Khan. Other winners on Wednesday included Usman Khan, A. Sattar, S. M. Ali Zaidi, Umair Ansari and Rizwan Hashmi. The tournament will conclude on Dec 16.
