LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that those who had claimed to bring a revolution fled away, leaving behind their shoes and clothes. She jibed at the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activists, who suddenly scattered in the face of a crackdown by the law-enforcing agencies on their protest at Islamabad late on Tuesday, during a presser on Wednesday. “While the public stood firm, Bushra Bibi ran away. This woman has ruined the politics of the PTI founder. She seemed to think she was just roaming in the streets of Pakpattan,” she said. Ms Bokhari said that cases have been registered against the rioters and no one would be spared. She said only “a few people” from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the protests, while those from other provinces rejected the PTI’s call. During the PTI protest, Punjab chief minister held three-hour long meetings, she said. The chief minister thanked the people of Punjab for rejecting the call of the rioters. No one, including Hamad Azhar, was seen participating in the protests in Punjab, she added. The minister said the entire PTI had clarified that Imran Khan had permitted protests at Sangjani, but Bushra Bibi insisted on taking the protesters to Islamabad’s D Chowk. She compared the protests with the agitations led by former premier Nawaz Sharif’s late wife Kulsoom Nawaz and daughter Maryam Nawaz, stating that PTI’s approach was completely different. She also pointed out that 171 police officers were injured and four Rangers personnel were martyred during the unrest, alleging that the rioters had come to attack the Prime Minister’s House and the Parliament. Ms Bokhari said the country had suffered losses of billions of rupees and that foreign guests were watching the chaos unfolding. She said that following the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) protest, Afghan nationals had been arrested and their data was being revealed by the agencies’ concerned.
