MANSEHRA: Residents have demanded of the district administration to revise transport fares in accord
MANSEHRA: Residents have demanded of the district administration to revise transport fares in accordance with the reduction announced by the government for petroleum prices. “The government has reduced the prices of petroleum products many times in the lastfew weeks but people are still without any relief in transport fares here,” resident Mohammad Ajmal told reporters here. He said fares of almost all passenger vehicles surgedwhenever the government increased petroleum prices. “This time around, the government cut petroleum products prices but we have yet to get its benefit,” he said. Mr Ajmal said despite the cut in petroleum prices, transporters were still collecting Rs150 per passenger from here to Abbottabad and Rs200 per passenger to Balakot. “The Regional Transport Authority should slash fares of intra-city and other transport vehicles to pass on the relief to commuters,” he said. Another resident, Sadaqat Ali, said fares of passenger coaches and buses plying from here to Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and other parts of the country were the same despite cuts in petroleum products prices. “Transporters increase fares without prior approval of the district administration whenever the government increases oil prices but are now reluctant to pass on the relief to commuters despite reduction in prices,” he said.
