KHYBER: The district administration and security officials on Saturday pledged during a jirga with elders of Tirah to continue their joint efforts for restoration of peace in the restive valley. Elders from Malakdinkhel, Kamarkhel, Adamkhel and other tribes of Tirah along with Deputy Commissioner retired captain Bilal Shahid Rae, Commander Tirah Bridg. Imran Rashid, DPO Mazhar Iqbal Rae and other senior officials attended the jirga. Participants of the jirga discussed the prevailing situation in the valley in detail with security and administrative officials, calling for active support from the Tirah tribes in the security forces’ battle against terrorist groups. Officials assured the Tirah elders that restoration of peace and securing the lives and properties of local residents was the prime responsibility of state institutions. The district administration also distributed compensation cheques to the affected individuals and families of the Peer Mela and Bhutan Shareef bombing and shelling incidents, which resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to over a dozen others.
