HYDERABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan’s emir Hafiz Naeem has rejected in its entirety the proposed constitutional package being worked out by ruling coalition and demanded Justice Mansoor Ali Shah be notified as chief justice as was done in the case of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa. He was addressing a public meeting, part of the party’s drive for peoples’ rights titled ‘Haq do awam ko’ at Kohinoor Chowk on Friday night. A constitutional crisis was in the making in the country as it was being planned to give an extension to sitting CJP but “JI rejects the entire constitutional amendment package,” he said. He said that it was being done to bring judges and CJP of choice so that favourable decisions could be obtained from the highest court. “There is a set procedure for CJP’s appointment which should be followed. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who is next in line to become CJP should be notified now as was done in the case of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa,” he said. He announced JI would stage sit-ins across Pakistan on Sept 29. JI would also issue call for wheel-jam strike in the next stage of its ‘Haq do awam ko’ movement. He announced holding protest on Oct 7 in support of Gaza.
