KHYBER: Local government representatives in Bara started fumigation against dengue and malaria on self-help basis as health department could not fulfil its responsibilities owing to financial constraints. Sources in different localities of Shalobar said that those areas were in the grip of dengue and malaria as the number of infected people was increasing with every passing day while health department could not arrange spray owing to shortage of funds. They said that though health department had sufficient stock of the required spray but it had no money for fuel to conduct fumigation through a mobile vehicle. They said that 47village council representatives conducted fog spray in Naugazi Baba, Charrhaye Sar, Secretary Pul, Detour Road, Pashki Bambay and Mansoor Chowk from their own resources. Meanwhile, health officials said that they conducted malaria control awareness sessions in more than 100 localities of Bara. They said that thousands of residents of different localities were informed about protective measures against the spread of malaria and dengue under malaria control programme.
