GUJRAT: The authorities on Saturday sealed the Gujrat Chamber of Small Trade and Small Industry due to the fear of a clash between rival groups of traders. Officials of police and district administration arrived at the chamber on GT Road near the industrial estate where supporters of both groups were present and got the offices of the supporters of both groups evacuated before locking them up. Official sources said the chamber had been locked on the orders of senior officials as both groups had also lodged complaints for registration of a case against each other. They added that the building had been locked temporarily until resolution of the issues relating to the office-bearers of the chamber. The confrontation between the groups was started a couple of days ago when a group of 15 executive members of the chamber arrived at the office and held a meeting and announced to dislodge the president, Faraz Ahmed, through no-confidence motion. They announced to elect the senior vice-president Mirza Waqas as their new president. However, Faraz Ahmed termed their move as illegal and a violation of rules set by the ministry of commerce.
