ISLAMABAD: The president and prime minister have called for a fair and just resolution of the Palestine and Kashmir disputes for lasting global peace and security. In their message on the International Day of Peace, they said Pakistan is ready to work with the global community to promote a more peaceful and inclusive world. The day is celebrated around the world on September 21. It was established by the UN in 1981 as a “globally shared data for all humanity” to foster peace. President Asif Ali Zardari said progress and development are not possible in the absence of peace as wars and conflicts multiply the problems and miseries of people. While affirming Pakistan’s commitment to the principles of peace, he regretted that Israel has unleashed a “reign of terror” in Palestine and is committing genocide by killing thousands of people. While referring to the Indian-held Kashmir, the the “Hindutva-inspired Modi regime” is committing grave human rights violations in the region. The BJP-led government is “persecuting Muslims and other minorities” in India“ and depriving them of their fundamental rights. These blatant violations of international law and human rights endanger global peace and security, Mr Zardari added. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also said that Pakistan strongly believes in fostering peace and stability in the region through dialogue as it is essential to resolve the long-standing disputes and achieve lasting peace. PM Shehbaz the foundation for lasting peace in the region hinges solely on achieving a fair and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through an impartial plebiscite in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. We must also not overlook the plight of the innocent people of Palestine, who are courageously facing a state of aggression, the PM said. “[W]e recognise the importance of fostering dialogue and understanding among diverse communities for a peaceful and sustainable world.” “In a world often marked by conflict and division, it is essential to bridge the differences and work towards the common goal of peace,” the PM remarked. On the International Day of Peace, Pakistan stands with the global community to reflect on the shared values of tolerance, compassion, and cooperation for a peaceful world, free of war and conflict, Mr Sharif added.
