Policeman shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT: Unknown assailants shot dead a policeman, serving at the Kohat prison, in his native hometown of Mosam Khan Banda here on Monday morning. Colleagues of the deceased, Mohammad Hussain, said he had been posted to the prison four years ago, and had no enmity with anyone. SHO Bilitang Abid Waseem told Dawn that an FIR had been registered under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. He said he had visited the scene of the killing and collected evidence. The policeman’s body was shifted to KDA Teaching Hospital for autopsy and then handed over to relatives for burial. The deceased was on a four-day leave, jail superintendent Abdul Bari told Dawn on phone from Bannu, where he had gone in connection with some official matter. He said that according to reports reaching him some unknown assailants shot the cop dead. He said that a terrorism element could not be ruled out in the murder. His family also told Bilitang police in the FIR that they had no enmity with anyone.
