QUETTA: Turbat police have registered an FIR against Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) central organiser Dr Mahrang Baloch, Makran High Court Bar Association President Mehrab Khan Gichki and several senior lawyers for delivering provocative speeches and violating Section 144. According to the police, Mahrang Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Jee, Advocate Majeed Dashti, Najma Mola Bakhsh, Ehsan Barkat, Advocate Majeed Shah, Bibi Nasima, Mahreen Baloch, Advocate Mehrab, Hameed Baloch, Muhammad Younis and a large number of BYC workers gathered at the main Turbat Chowk. Before holding a seminar on the issue of missing persons, they made provocative speeches against the government and forcibly shut down shops and bazaars, despite the imposition of Section 144, which prohibited such gatherings. The FIR was registered under sections 341, 188, 186, 506, 5027 and 147 of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, no arrests have been made so far. Members of the Kech Bar Association and Makran High Court Bar Association staged a protest in front of the Turbat police station, condemning the FIR against the senior lawyers and others. They chanted slogans and later attempted to offer themselves for arrest at the police station. However, the police refused to arrest any lawyer at the time. The protesting lawyers called the FIR against their colleagues unjustified and announced a boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday. They said the boycott would continue until Friday.
