NAROWAL: Two persons were killed in Sialkot and one was seriously injured in Narowal due to lightning strikes on Friday. The region experienced light and heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, breaking the intense heat wave. The strong winds and rain damaged the rice crop. Forty-year-old Babar, of Glotian in Daska, was struck by lightning and died. Rescue 1122 later handed over his body to his next of kin after completing necessary legal formalities. Sarwar died while working in the fields in Jethki of Sialkot, following a lightning strike. Also, 32-year-old Waseem, of Deepoke village in Zafarwal, Narowal district, was also working in the fields during the rain when he was seriously injured by lightning. Rescue 1122 provided first aid before shifting him to the Naroal District Headquarters Hospital. Rescue 1122 advised citizens not to stand under trees during rain, especially during thunderstorms, and to keep their mobile phones switched off to protect against lightning strikes.
