Girl falls victim to honour killing

SAHIWAL: A girl was killed by her father in the name of honour in Chak 12/SP, tehsil Pakpattan. The victim was identified as Kiran, daughter of Muhammad Akhtar, a farm worker. According to a police report, Kiran had run away with a village boy some few months back and contracted marriage with him. Later, she returned home to live with her parents. On the night of the incident, Akhtar allegedly shot Kiran in the head while she was asleep. Akhtar’s wife, Safia Bibi, and other children were sleeping in another room. Kiran died instantly. Her mother cried out for help. Saddar police arrested Akhtar along with the pistol used in the murder. The body of the victim was sent to DHQ Hospital, Pakpattan, for post-mortem. PRISONER: A death row prisoner engaged in a heated altercation with prison staff at the Central Prison Sahiwal on Sunday. He verbally abused the prison staff, got involved in a scuffle with the head warder and tore his uniform. Report said Waseem, of Mandi Ahmedabad, was brought to the prison after being convicted of murder. During his appearance, he caused a disturbance, verbally abused the jail administration and threatened to kill the staff. The prisoner attacked Head Warder Munir Ahmed and tore his uniform before being subdued by constables who locked him in the prisoners’ block. Police have initiated an investigation. A case (435/24) was registered against Waseem under PPC sections 506, 353, and 186 for interfering with official duties, making threats to the prison administration, and damaging the uniform of an official. The complaint was filed by Sajjad, assistant superintendent of the prison, with the Civil Line Police. —
