EYE INFECTIONS: The recent monsoon season has badly affected life in Hub. People are unable to move out of their houses as the streets are inundated by overflowing sewage. There are large patches where the sewage has dried up on the streets, and since it has not been removed from the area, there is a lot of harmful dust floating around. Eye infec-tions and other health issues are sprea-ding in the area. The relevant authorities should look into the matter urgently. In a recent raid on dairy vendors and hotels in Dadu to check the quality of milk being sold and consumed, the samples collected from various vendors showed harmful chem-icals. Resultantly, several dairy shops and hotels were penalised and sealed. However, despite penalties and the publication of a list naming these vendors, many have reopened their outlets and resumed their business. It is high time for the authorities concerned to take strict and immediate action, and stop the sale of unhygienic milk in Dadu. As things stand, the entire power of the state is being used to do only two things: to somehow manage a two-thirds majority in parlia-ment for the government, and to control social media at any cost to silence criticism of the government as well as state insti-tutions. As such, everything else has been put on hold. This is too narrow a focus to allow the government to do anything meaningful for the people. The automated teller machines (ATMs) in Uthal city have been out of service for weeks now. This forces the local people to commute long distances to draw money. Despite filing many complaints by the residents, nothing seems to have been done for fixing the ATMs. The authorities should pay attention to the matter.
