Bhagat Singh Gallery opens at Poonch House

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Monday opened the Bhagat Singh Gallery at the historical Poonch House, which has been restored in its original form of 1849 where Bhagat Singh’s trial was conducted. The gallery houses historical documents, pictures and other memorial articles that explain Bhagat Singh’s character and freedom struggle. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman inaugurated the gallery that features Bhagat Singh’s photos, letters and newspapers. During the British rule, Bhagat Singh’s sedition trial was held at Poonch House. Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the departments of industries and tourism, tourists would be given access to the Poonch House. Inspecting the restoration work of the historical building of Poonch House, the chief secretary said historical buildings and places were national assets and their protection was a collective responsibility of all. Appreciating Industries and Commerce Department secretary’s efforts in restoring the building in its original form, the chief secretary said the restoration of historical buildings in their original form would promote tourism. The administrative secretaries of industries, communication and works and tourism departments as well as director-general of archeology and officers concerned were present on the occasion.
