The ongoing beautification project by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi in Phase II is a matter of serious concern for the local community. The installation of pillars and shades on the streets is bound to restrict parking space for the people. It will force them to park cars in some distant lot and walk to the market, causing inconvenience and potentially driving away business. The DHA should reconsider the design. The recent monsoon rains have affected life in Quetta. The downpour caused widespread flooding, turning roads and streets into rivers. The economic impact of these rains on commercial activities has been seriously negative. The authorities should address the emergency situation urgently. Incidents of motorcycle and car theft have increased in Islamabad. We visited a famous adn busy mall recently and parked our new bike in the main parking area. When we returned, we found that someone had tried hard to steal the motorcycle, but could not manage the lock. They damaged the lock so badly that we had to tow the bike to a mechanic to have it fixed. A few days earlier, a colleague had his motorcycle stolen from the Blue Area. The authorities should take action against the criminals. As I was going to the university the other day, a car rushed past me. The driver caught my attention as he was very young, probably in his early teens. The number of road accidents is increasing day by day in the country, and rash driving by underage drivers is a common cause behind such incidents. Most of these young drivers belong to the upper class, and get away with just about anything. The law should be the same for every person regardless of one’s socioeconomic class.
