TAXILA: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed a fine of over Rs0.3 million on eight marriage halls in Attock on Monday. A PFA spokesman said teams from the authority checked 12 well-known marriage halls in Attock city and imposed fines on eight marriage halls due to unhealthy food, expired meat, rotten vegetables and open adulterated spices. The spokesman said that as per law, the catering and wedding halls administration were bound to use standard essential commodities during preparation of food to be served to guests or customers. “They have been asked to also ensure traceability of ingredients,” he added. According to the Punjab Food Act 2011, a person shall not use any place for food business except under the prescribed registration or licence while the food authority may, in the prescribed manner, exempt a class of food operators from obtaining compulsory registration or license.
