IN a recent video circulating on social media platforms, a family on its way to a local school in Shikarpur can be seen getting intercepted by three armed men who ended up depriving the family of cash and cellphones at gunpoint. Unfortunately, incidents like these have become all too common in Shikarpur. Street crimes have reached alarming levels as no concrete action has been taken to address the issue for long. The people of this historic city are living in a state of constant fear, as the law enforcement mechanism seems powerless in curbing the prevailing wave of law-lessness. Families and children are now daily targets of criminals who operate with impunity. The community, frustrated and fed up, has taken to the streets often to voice its anger and to catch the attention of the relevant authorities. Despite these pea-ceful protests and public outcry, no significant action has been taken by those who matter. The sense of insecurity is increasing with every incident, leaving the people wondering if their voices are truly being heard. Shikarpur, a city rich in history and culture, cannot afford to let street crimes define its future. It is time for the local government and law-enforcement agencies to do something about it. The people deserve safety and protection. No child or adult should ever experience the trauma of having a gun pointed at them. Undoubtedly, the rising crime rate demands an urgent and effective response. If action is not taken soon, the sense of frustration and unrest will only deepen within the community.
