Industrial unit sealed for polluting environment

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday sealed an industrial unit in the district and imposed Rs300,000 fine for polluting environment. It also sealed two gold melting units in Sarafa Bazaar. According to the district administration spokesperson, the poultry feed oil industrial unit in the RCCI industrial area in Rawat and gold melting units in the district were emitting smoke that gave rise to smog in the area. Therefore, these units were sealed. He said on the instructions of the deputy commissioner, the environment department inspected various industrial units to prevent smog, adding that besides sealing them, warning notices had also been issued to the units. He said 901 vehicles were inspected during the smog prevention activity out of which 12 smoke emitting vehicles were impounded, adding that owners of vehicles without fitness certificates were fined Rs780,000. The spokesperson said the district administration had asked people to support government measures to improve the environment and protect air from pollution.
