LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday called for a strict action against motorists for not observing their lane on the roads and imposition of heavy fines on those littering the streets. Justice Shahid Karim passed the instructions, during a weekly hearing on smog-related petitions. The judge observed if people adhered to lane discipline on the roads, it would help reduce pollution significantly. He suggested issuing challan tickets to those who violate lane and taking legal action against those responsible for felling trees. He pointed out that the high temperature as of Sept 27 reflects the impact of climate change. A lawyer appearing as amicus curiae told the court that private schools had started working on environmental awareness initiatives, and the government was providing plants to these schools. The judge adjourned further hearing till Oct 4 and sought progress reports from various departments. Remand:A judicial magistrate at Cantonment Courts on Friday remanded a police constable into four-day custody of Harbanspura police in murder case of a female colleague. The police presented constable Farooq before the magistrate and sought his 14-day remand. The investigating officer stated that the custody of the suspect was required to recover a pistol used in the murder and to complete the investigation. However, the magistrate allowed physical remand for four days. Initial investigation revealed that Farooq killed lady constable Sonam, 27, for refusing to marry him.
