Dr Jaffar appointed general secretary of PHS

KARACHI: The Hamdard Foundation Pakistan has appointed Prof Dr Syed Jaffar Ahmed as the general secretary of the Pakistan Historical Society (PHS). According to a press release, the decision was taken by the foundation president Sadia Rashid on the recommendation from the PHS executive committee, said a press release issued here on Wednesday. Dr Ahmed had served as the director of the Pakistan Study Centre at the University of Karachi for 18 years. He currently holds the position of director at the Institute of Historical and Social Research and serves as the dean of the faculty of social sciences at Sohail University. The PHS is a research organisation established in 1950 by history researchers to promote and advance research on various aspects of the national history of Pakistan. The founder of Hamdard Pakistan, Hakim Mohammed Said, accepted the patronage of the society in 1978.
