Omer beats Basit at national ranking tennis

ISLAMABAD: Omer Jawad edged Abdul Basit in a thrilling three-set match on Tuesday to advance to the next round of the 10th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Cham­pion­ships here on Tuesday. Jawad overcame Basit 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in their first-round encounter at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex. In other matches of the day, Mohammad Salar beat Mohammad Haziq Asim 6-3, 6-4 while Mohammad Abid thras­hed Asad Zaman 6-0, 6-0. Hamza Roman was also among the winners as he downed Murtaza Hussain 6-2, 6-3 and Heera Ashiq routed Mohammad Yahya 6-0, 6-1. Results (first-round): Men’s singles: M. Hamza Aasim bt M.
