Workshop highlights drug prevention in educational institutions

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Department of Law at the Government College University of Faisalabad organised a one-day workshop on strategies for drug prevention in educational institutions. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among parents, teachers and students about the societal and institutional challenges posed by narcotics. The event featured Chairman of the Department of Law Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Dr Imtiaz Ahmed Dogar, Syed Salman from the Anti-Narcotics Force Punjab, and President of the Anti-Narcotics Association Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal. Faculty members and students also attended. Dr Murtaza explained the social, economic and environmental harm caused by the use of narcotics and said that strict steps were being taken to clean the university from all kinds of narcotics. He said that strict action would be taken against those who use narcotics within the university premises. Dr Dogar spoke about the harm drugs cause to the human body and mental health. Mr Iqbal and Mr Salman every individual would have to fight for the formation of society. Amna Akram said that educated mothers can play an effective role in preventing social evils. There is a need to involve them in issues such as education, health, economy, employment, social harmony and its maintenance. The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has achieved a significant milestone as several of its degree programmes and departments have been placed in the prestigious W-category by the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Council under the Higher Education Commission (HEC). According to a press release, W-category is the highest ranking for Pakistani universities, signifying that degrees from these institutions are recognised nationally and internationally. UAF programmes in Plant Breeding and Genetics, Horticulture Sciences, Agronomy, Soil and Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology, and many more have achieved this distinction. Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan said that UAF’s inclusion in the W-category reflects its commitment to academic excellence and global educational standards. Ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide in agriculture and forestry, UAF enjoys strong ties with leading educational and agricultural institutions globally.
