Fellowship programme unveiled to foster academic collaboration between Pakistan, Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Comstech) and the University of Lahore on Sunday unveiled a joint fellowship programme to foster academic collaboration between Pakistan and Bangladesh. According to a statement issued by Comstech, the initiative reflected a shared vision to nurture talent, drive innovation and enhance academic exchange among the OIC-member states. “The fellowship programme aims to offer Bangladeshi students and researchers opportunities to pursue higher education and engage in advanced research across diverse fields,” the statement read. Academics would be able to conduct research in fields like allied health sciences, engineering and technology, pharmacy, management sciences, social sciences and humanities. Additionally, the initiative will provide technical training for personnel working in science, technology and engineering laboratories. Comstech Coordinator General Prof Mohammad Iqbal Choudhary highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “This fellowship programme reflects our dedication to bridging educational and research gaps across the Muslim world. By investing in Bangladeshi scholars and students, we aim to develop future innovators and leaders equipped to tackle contemporary challenges.” The programme underscored Comstech and UOL’s commitment to advancing education and professional development across the Muslim world, the statement read. The fellowship was open to Bangladeshi nationals aged between 22 and 45 years, residing in any country, with exceptional academic records and a strong commitment to community service. The Comstech said that it covered tuition, round-trip airfare, a stipend and free accommodation. Eligible candidates could apply through the official websites of Comstech and the University of Lahore. Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2025.
