SWAT: An expert in veterinary medicine, Dr Mohammad Inam, has said that the livestock sector is vital to country’s economy. He was speaking at a workshop by scholars and veterinary students in Mingora on Sunday. He said that in Pakistan, agriculture played a crucial role, contributing 24pc to the national GDP, with livestock accounting for 60.84pc of agricultural value addition. “My work in both basic veterinary medicine and poultry science reflects the diverse challenges faced by our agricultural sector. Pakistan’s livestock industry is vital to our economy, and by advancing research in these fields, we can contribute to both national prosperity and global health.” He shared. Dr Inam, a lecturer at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) in Sheringal, has become the first veterinarian in Pakistan to earn dual PhD degrees in two distinct disciplines within veterinary sciences. “Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest challenges we face in veterinary medicine today,” Dr Inam said. “By tackling this issue, we hope to make strides in not just veterinary care but also the broader health ecosystem.” Participants of the event said that in recognition of his exceptional contributions to veterinary sciences, it was imperative that Dr Mohammad Inam’s achievements be formally acknowledged. Such recognition not only honours his pioneering work but also reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to advancing education and research on the global stage.
