LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday revealed the inductees for its prestigious PCB Hall of Fame Class of 2024, honouring four legendary cricketers. Cricketing icons Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Saeed Anwar have been announced as the newest members of the PCB Hall of Fame. This marks a significant year for the Hall of Fame, as four inductees are being honoured compared to the usual two. This exception was made because no cricketers were inducted in 2023. The PCB Hall of Fame, established to honour the contributions of Pakistan's cricketing legends, already includes icons such as Abdul Qadir, A.H. Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan and Zaheer Abbas. This year’s selection process involved a distinguished panel comprising Wasim Akram and Zaheer Abbas (both Hall of Famers), former captain Azhar Ali, former women’s cricketers Bismah Maroof and Nain Abidi, and cricket journalists and analysts including Majid Bhatti, Mohi Shah, Muhammad Yaqoob, Nauman Niaz, Sawera Pasha, and Zahid Maqsood. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the inductees. “On behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board, I extend heartfelt congratulations to these four cricketing legends on their well-deserved inductions into the PCB Hall of Fame. This honour represents a tribute to their outstanding contributions to Pakistan cricket and to the global game," Naqvi said. He also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of all four inductees. “Mushtaq Mohammad is regarded as one of Pakistan’s finest captains, known for his astute leadership and inspiring style. Inzamam-ul-Haq’s immense talent and match-winning ability have left an indelible mark on the sport," he said. "Misbah-ul-Haq took charge of the Pakistan team during challenging times, guiding it to the pinnacle of Test rankings and achieving a historic series win in the Caribbean. Saeed Anwar, with his natural grace and classical technique, redefined the role of an opener and thrived against some of the world’s best bowlers under all conditions," he added. Naqvi further expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s cricketing legends, emphasising their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s cricketing identity. “These four giants of the game hold a special place in Pakistan’s rich cricketing history. Their contributions not only elevated the sport within Pakistan but also inspired future generations to pursue excellence," he said. “Their talent, charisma, and unwavering commitment have made them true ambassadors of cricket, and the PCB takes immense pride in honouring their accomplishments." “Pakistan is fortunate to have produced such extraordinary players who have showcased their skill and sportsmanship on the global stage. I hope that our aspiring cricketers will look up to these icons and strive to follow in their footsteps, carrying forward their legacy and continuing to strengthen Pakistan’s position as a cricketing powerhouse,” he concluded. A cornerstone of Pakistan cricket from 1991 to 2007, Inzamam was a key member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team and one of Pakistan’s finest middle-order batters. Known for his resilience, Misbah represented Pakistan from 2001 to 2017. Under his captaincy, Pakistan achieved the ICC Test Team Rankings' top spot in 2016 and clinched a historic Test series victory in the Caribbean. Representing Pakistan from 1959 to 1979, Mushtaq was a pioneer of captaincy, leading Pakistan to its first-ever Test win in Australia in 1977. He also coached the team to the final of the 1999 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. A masterful opener, Saeed represented Pakistan from 1989 to 2003. With 31 centuries and 68 half-centuries to his name, he excelled in multiple World Cups and is celebrated for his graceful technique and adaptability.
