BAHAWALPUR: The Cantonment Police Station registered an FIR against a teenage boy on charge of decapitating the statue of the late Nawab of Bahawalpur Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V at the intersection of Circuit House. The FIR was registered on the complaint of, Muhammad Sajjad, the security supervisor of Bahawalpur Cantonment Board, the custodian of the statue. The complainant alleged that the suspect Bilal, a minor without a CNIC, was found vandalising the statue and was caught red-handed while stealing the part from the statue. The suspect was produced before the court, which sent him on judicial remand to the Borstal Jail (juvenile jail), Bahawalpur. According to investigating officer Tahir Abbas, Bilal, a resident of Farid Gate, was a minor and had no CNIC and he appeared to be an addict, having mental health issues though he was yet to be medically examined. According to police, no one from his parents turned up either at the police station or in the court to pursue his case. They said Bilal had his mother who did not come for his son’s help. It may be recalled that the suspect had decapitated Nawab’s statue on Friday and stole its head. He was later caught by security men of Cantonment Board. A truck driver was allegedly shot dead while his co-driver suffered serious injuries in the firing by an unidentified man at a Jhangra rest area on Sukkur-Multan motorway near Uch Sharif. The deceased was identified as Imran Khan (36), a truck driver from Mianwali.
