GUJRAT: Police have booked 13 people, including three policemen, on charge of the murder of a man who was in police custody near Kulachor village on Shahbazpur Road in Jalalpur Jattan. Zameer Hussain Khokhar of Mekan village, an absconder in a murder case of 2021, was being brought to the Daulat Nagar Police Station after his arrest at Karachi airport on his return from Saudi Arabia on Friday. Eight suspects from the rival group, including Qurban, Nawazish and Abid, intercepted the private car with Zameer and ASI Ibrar and two other policemen, Jamshed and Abdul Jabbar, on board. Police claimed that the suspects snatched Zameer from their custody and shot him dead on the spot. Kausar Bibi, the mother of the deceased, blamed police for involvement in the murder of her son. The case was registered under sections of the PPC. A spokesman for Gujrat police said three policemen had already been arrested and District Police Officer Dr Mustanser Atta Bajwa suspended them from service. He added that an inquiry would be launched to probe their involvement in the incident. Official sources said the police team was bringing Zameer from Karachi by road in a car. They suspected connivance of the policemen with the killers who were complainants in the murder case Zameer was booked in.
