MIANWALI: More than 80 per cent of the wheat sowing target has been achieved in Mianwali district, according to Deputy Director of Agriculture Malik Ghulam Hur. During a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mianwali Khalid Javed Gorayia to review wheat sowing progress, it was revealed that 385,000 acres of wheat have been sown against the target of 478,000 acres. The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners of Mianwali, Isakhel and Piplan tehsils, crop reporting officers, Kisan Ittehad President Haji Abdul Qadir Khan and officials from the agriculture and irrigation departments. Mr Hur said that the Agriculture Department has been conducting farmer training and awareness programmes in the field. He added that fertiliser stocks were sufficient, and many farmers were benefiting from Kissan cards issued by the provincial government. The issuance of letters for Kissan cards was also discussed. DC Gorayia urged officials to ensure the district meets its wheat sowing targets across all tehsils within the stipulated timeframe.
