SUKKUR: Sukkur police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a suspected kidnapper of a teenage boy, who had allegedly confessed to have slit throat of the victim and thrown his body into Rice Canal after parents failed to arrange the ransom. Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh told Dawn that police acted swiftly after 14-year-old Faheem Mirani went missing in Nawan Goth locality on Friday and succeeded in arresting the suspect Usman Bandhani on Sunday evening. He said the suspect confessed during initial interrogation that he and his associates had kidnapped the boy and called his parents, demanding ransom for his release. He said that when the boy’s parents failed to pay the ransom they slit throat of the hostage and threw his body into the canal, said the SSP. He said that they had found the body and the crime weapon on Monday. Police had picked up another suspect after raids in different places in the city and started interrogating him, he said, adding the remaining suspects would be arrested soon. The bereaved family buried the victim in their locality’s graveyard without getting post mortem done on the body.
