QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has ordered cancellation of no-objection certificates (NOCs) for underperforming in Gwadar and suggested inviting new investor companies through a transparent process. He issued the directive while presiding over the 29th meeting of the governing body of Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) on Wednesday. The meeting addressed several agenda points, including the Smart Port City, Gwadar Master Plan, Safe City Project, infrastructure, and environmental issues. The discussions also covered GDA’s short-term achievements and long-term strategies. The chief minister emphasised the need for all departments to collaborate with comprehensive planning to transform Gwadar into a globally recognised, developed city. He highlighted the importance of prioritising the interests of the local population during the development process and addressing concerns related to the Master Plan and Shipbreaking Yard projects, particularly those raised by local fishermen and residents. CM Bugti reiterated that Gwadar is vital not only for the development of Balochistan and Pakistan but also holds global significance. Therefore, he said, designing future-focused projects that create an investment-friendly environment for international investors is crucial, while ensuring local communities are consulted and involved throughout the development process. Regarding the provision of clean drinking water to Gwadar residents, the chief minister called for a clear division of responsibilities between the Public Health Engineering Department and GDA. He pointed out that reliance on each other has led to delays, exacerbating the challenges faced by the city’s residents. CM Bugti directed the GDA to enhance its revenue-generating capacities to achieve financial self-sufficiency, gradually reducing dependence on provincial government funding. He urged the formation of profitable projects to support this objective. He instructed Quetta Electric Supply Company to prepare a feasibility report for constructing a feeder to ensure a reliable power supply to the Gwadar hospital. At the conclusion of the meeting, Chief Minister Bugti, alongside MNA Malik Shah Gorgage, Gwadar MPA Maulana Hidayatur Rahman, Balochistan Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan and Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Mir Pasand Khan Buledi, distributed relief cheques to flood victims in Ormara tehsil.
