LARKANA: An inspector of police and a head clerk posted in Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP office were suspended on Thursday in the wake of allegations of harassment levelled against them by former in-charge of women protection cell, who named them as her harassers in a video that went viral on social media a couple of days before. Larkana SSP Dr Mir Rohal Khan Khoso, who holds the additional charge of SSP of Qambar-Shahdadkot, took the action against Inspector Riaz Ahmed Soomro and head clerk Sikandar Ali Lashari after he visited Qambar a day ago on IGP’s directives to probe woman police constable Sanam Parveen Brohi’s allegations, said police sources on Thursday. The inspector was directed to immediately report to police lines Qambar-Shadadkot and not leave the headquarters without prior permission of his superior officer, while the head clerk was asked to report to the Establishment Branch, said the order. Larkana SSP has transferred Ms Brohi, who had earlier refused to accept her transfer orders and hand over the charge of women protection cell to constable Zeenat Waggan, as well as Ms Waggan to Police Lines. Through the same order, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ms Saba Mugheri, currently posted at Pakho police post was made new in-charge of women protection cell. All the officials were asked to immediately report at their new places of posting, said the order, a copy of which was available with Dawn. Meanwhile, Larkana Range DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan appointed SP (investigations) Haseeb Javed Soomar Memon as inquiry officer to probe Ms Brohi’s allegations. He said in a letter: “On Dec 11, a video clip of woman police constable Sanam Parveen Brohi, in-charge of women, child protection cell at SSP office Qambar went viral in which she leveled allegations of harassment on head clerk and office in-charge of the SSP office.” The SP was asked to submit a report and recommendations to the DIG Larkana office within two days, said the letter.
