Chief secy pledges continued support for police operations in riverine area

KARACHI: A high profile meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah on Thursday resolved to utilise all available resources to establish and maintain peace in riverine of the province and assured police force of full support in its ongoing operations against dacoits. The meeting, which was attended by Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, commissioner and DIG of Sukkur, commissioner and DIG of Larkana, was informed by the IGP that significant successes had been achieved in the riverine area since Jan 1, 2024. He said that 76 dacoits had been killed, 115 inju-red and 363 arrested during operations against criminals. Several areas had been cleared of outlaws, leading to remarkable progress in the restoration of peace and security, he said. The chief secretary commended police’s performance in restoring law and order in the riverine area and directed police and other law enforcement agencies to adopt a coordinated strategy for sustainable achievements. He emphasised the importance of implementing effective measures to ensure lasting peace in the region and creating a safe and secure environment for the area’s residents. The meeting stressed the need for close liaison between police and district administration and the chief secretary urged all institutions to work together to ensure law and order in the region and provide protection to general public. The meeting discussed future challenges and their solutions and the chief secretary directed law enforcement agencies to proceed with a comprehensive plan. The chief secretary pledged to equip police force with all modern tools and resources to improve effectiveness of its operations and reiterated that restoration of peace and security remained on top of government’s priorities’ list. Law enforcement agencies would continue to receive all necessary support, he vowed.
