HYDERABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court-I on Thursday granted interim pre-arrest bail to 44 activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London in a sedition case in a sum of Rs10,000 each. The case was lodged at Fort police station under Sections 123-3, 124-A, 34 PPC and 6/7 of Anti-Terrorism Act on Dec 9 when the party activists tried to march towards Shuhada Qabrastan in Pucca Qilla. Six activists were arrested by police and remanded in judicial custody the following day by an ATC judge. Shakeel Zai, counsel for the MQM-L activists, said the court granted interim pre-arrest bail without touching merits of the case, which was fixed for hearing on Dec 18 and the accused were required to join investigation with police. He said that ingredients of 123-A, 124-A were not mentioned in FIR although the sections had been applied. Similarly, no firing took place where the activists had gathered, no specific words of slogans attributed to them had been mentioned, he said. He stressed that the activists did not raise any anti-state slogan and the case had been lodged against them only to force them to change their political loyalties.
