Constable escorting IG’s family dies in accident

ISLAMABAD: Funeral prayers of Constable Safdar Hussain Shah, who lost his life in a road accident while escorting the family of police chief of Islamabad, was offered at Police Lines Headquarters here on Thursday. Police officials told Dawn that in the accident three officials of the counterterroism department (CTD) also sustained injuries. One of them identified as Constable Hazrat Bilal, is admitted in the hospital with serious injures for further medical assistance and recovery, they added. Constable Shah, was in his late 20s and he was to tie a knot next month, they added. Police officials said that, a four members’ team of the CTD’s officials in a single cabin SUV left with the family Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, as escort, for Lahore. They moved as escort behind the car in which the family was traveling. The preliminary investigation into the incident suggested that before the Sheikhupura interchange the escort vehicle of the CTD officials met with the accident as one of its tyre burst. Somehow, Constable Shah fell from the vehicle and collided with something on the road and sustained head injuries and died. In the incident the rights side of the vehicle was badly damaged. Later the deceased’s body and the injured were brought to Islamabad, they added. In a statement police said the funeral prayer of Islamabad Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) special squad officer Safdar Hussain Shah offered at Police Lines Headquarters Islamabad. IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, senior police officers and a large number of police officers offered the funeral prayer. A smartly turned-out contingent of the police personnel presented a guard of honour. IGP Islamabad and senior police officers draped the coffins with flower wreaths and recited fatiha. Police officers shouldered the coffins and later the body was sent to his respective native town. IGP Islamabad condoled with the family of the deceased and said that Islamabad police stand with the bereaved family and will take care of them in every possible way. He also issued orders to the senior police officers to provide full support to the family of the deceased, saying that every officer of the police force is a valuable asset for me, their families will be taken care of in every way.
