RAWALPINDI: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Tuesday said the government was working seriously on introducing conceptual exams in educational institutions. “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also formed a task force in this regard. If there is conceptual learning, our country will be able to compete with the modern world. The government is also going to launch a teacher training programme,” he said. The minister was speaking at an awareness session organised at the Woman University Rawalpindi by the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate Education (BISE) and Kantab Publisher on conceptual examination. He said practical learning was need of the time. “We will empower our school and college heads to solve all problems of teachers and students.” He said issues of the education department will also be solved in the next three months. Secretary Higher Education Dr Farukh Naveed, HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mohammad Adnan, Chairman Lahore Board Mian Zahid, District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Amanullah Khan, chancellors of universities, Dr Naeem Khalid of Kantab Publisher and others attended the session Dr Mukhtar Ahmed emphasised the importance of education and training of children in the right direction. Dr Naeem Khalid said there was no shortage of talent in our children. We have made our children parrots, but through conceptual learning they have been able to cope with new technology. He said there are opportunities in Pakistan. Governments make policies but their implementation remains pending. The role of teachers is the most important, who have a heavy responsibility for the education and training of children.” He said that we have to merge our matric into O level and intermediate into A level. “The examination system needs to be changed. Teachers are the architects of the nation. We should have a child who is equipped with technology. We should make children who use modern technology,” he said. “This education system needs to be changed. With this method of education, we cannot make our child self-sufficient. The only era is the era of computers and robots,” he said.
