LOWER DIR: Awami National Party has threatened to launch a protest against delimitation of provincial assembly constituencies in Lower Dir. Addressing a function in Samarbagh on Saturday, ANP district culture secretary Syed Khalid Ahmed strongly reacted to the fresh delimitation of provincial constituencies PK-16 and PK-17. “The people of Jandol are not ready to accept this attempt of unfair delimitation. If the government does not review it, we will be forced to take to streets,” he said. He appealed to the government and Election Commission of Pakistan to listen to the voice of people and review the fresh delimitation. ECP partially changed its delimitation order for Lower Dir of Nov 30, 2023 and issued a fresh order regarding delimitation of provincial assembly constituencies on Friday last. According to the notification, the delimitation would be applicable for next general elections in the country. Jamaat-i-Islami former district chief Izazul Mulk Afkari has demanded of federal government to restore utility stores in Jandol area of Lower Dir. Talking to journalists in Munda here on Saturday, he criticised federal government for closure of 30 utility stores in Kambat and other areas of Lower Dir. “Surprisingly, many utility stores have been closed across Pakistan on the pretext of loss, most of which are located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said. He said that closure of utility stores was unacceptable to them as it rendered many people jobless. He said that it was needed to introduce reforms in utility stores but flawed policies of federal provincial governments pushed the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards inflation and deprivation of basic amenities. Mr Afkari said that the closure of utility stores was a conspiracy against the poor and middle class. He demanded that they would raise voice at every forum against the injustice done to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
