GUJAR KHAN: A train, traveling from Karachi to Rawalpindi, derailed at Kaliam Awan railway station near Gujar Khan, approximately 35km from Rawalpindi Railway Station in the early hours of Sunday morning. “The incident occurred around 4:15am as the train was returning to the main track from a loop track following a routine crossing with another train,” Divisional Superintendent of Pakistan Railways in Rawalpindi Nooruddin Dawar confirmed toDawn. The deputy superintendent said that a relief train, accompanied by a team of engineers, was promptly sent to the scene. After dismantling the damaged bogie, the train continued its journey while the affected loop tracks were repaired, DS Dawar said, adding that by 7:30am, traffic between Rawalpindi and Lahore had been restored. He claimed that incidents of this nature occurred occasionally, saying that all was well and confirmed that the passengers in the affected bogie were safe and unharmed.
