HYDERABAD: Three candidates backed by Pakistan Peoples Party and two supported by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf won local government election in five union committees of different town municipal corporations (TMCs) that remained by and large peaceful in Hyderabad on Thursday. Two seats of UC chairman and one seat of vice chairman of union committees were clinched by Pakistan Peoples Party- and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-backed candidates, respectively, as per unofficial results of the polls. Low turnout was reported. PPP’s Istehsan Barkat won seat of chairman of UC-125, Hussainabad TMC, by beating PTI-backed Mehboob Ali Abro. Young Istehsan (310 votes) contested the seat, which fell vacant after his father Barkat Babar’s death. Abro (217 votes) who was in the run as independent candidate was backed by PTI, according to unofficial results. In UC-140 of the same TMC, PPP’s Zulfikar Janwari and Imran Baloch won seats of chairman and vice chairman with 622 votes against panel of Mukhtiar Ali and Saeed Chandio, who were polled 599 votes. Nazeer Jalalani of PPP, from Saeed Khan Loond UC, was elected to vacant seat of the district council. PPP’s Asif Khaskheli won seat of general ward councilor of UC Lal Mehmoodani. Both the seats fell within Bulri Shah Karim taluka, according to unofficial results.
