LARKANA: A 40-year-old man and his 32-year-old sister were gunned down in the Bakrani area of Larkana district late Sunday night over their mother’s freewill marriage, according to local residents. They said that the mother, Qaim Khatoon Brohi, was seriously wounded in the attack but she was now recovering at the Trauma Centre in Dokri. Officials at the Bakrani police station said that the years-old freewill marriage dispute between two groups of the Brohi community had been settled through mediation but it claimed lives of the two siblings only now. The deceased were identified as Nadeem Brohi, 40, and Fazila Brohi, 32. A group of armed men, believed to be from their rival side, sneaked into their house in Haider Brohi village and riddled the two siblings and their mother with bullets, neighbours said, adding that they rushed Qaim Khatoon to the Trauma Centre for treatment. The police collected the bodies of Nadeem and Fazila and took them to the Dokri Taluka Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Later, they were handed over to the heirs. Qaim Khatoon had contracted her freewill marriage with a teacher, Dost Mohammed Brohi, who lived in Haider Brohi village, locals said. Larkana DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan has assigned an investigation of the case to SP Headquarters Haseeb Jawed Soomar Memon.
