LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari says that as the fire in Parachinar spreads to the streets of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, its chief minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, is engrossed in dreaming about how to mobilise his government employees to attack Islamabad. “Gandapur has not held a single meeting regarding law and order in KP. These people have created uproar on social media, questioning why the military and federal government are not stepping in. The federal government will only intervene if the provincial government takes responsibility first. Gandapur seems more concerned about distributing billions of rupees among protesters than safeguarding the lives of his own people,” Ms Bukhari told a presser here on Saturday. She said it was shameful that the PTI spewed venom against the country whose resources it had exploited for personal gains. “These individuals claim to bring Sharia to a country where it already exists. If I disclose the kind of Sharia Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan aim to establish, everyone will be ashamed.” She referred to a journalist’s report that revealed Rs1.34bn were withdrawn by the KP commissioners and DCs to distribute among mosque clerics. Out of this, Rs910m were distributed, while the remaining Rs390m remained unaccounted for. “This money will now be used for May 9 part-II,” she claimed. The minister said no one would be allowed to ‘attack’ Islamabad. Maintaining law and order was the joint responsibility of the provinces and the federal government, which they would fulfill. “Anyone attempting to take the law into his hands will be dealt with like the Khawarij (militants). The Islamabad High Court has clearly stated that no one will be allowed to disrupt the peace.” She also alleged that the PTI was likely to involve Afghan nationals and armed groups. “Imran Khan is desperate to create chaos and will go to any extent to achieve his goals. Bushra Bibi’s anti-state rhetoric was delivered with Mr Khan’s consent. Now the PTI operatives are desperately trying to cover up her rant against a brotherly country. I now foresee Bushra’s influence coming to an end,” she added. She claimed that if PTI had been a political party, it would not have faced such a situation today. Mr Gandapur should stop threatening Islamabad’s security agencies and visit Parachinar and Kurram Agency instead, she said. She said Punjab was a province witnessing rapid development, with many projects nearing completion. However, the disruptive elements were not allowing peace to prevail in Punjab. “Their motto seems to be: neither will we work nor let anyone else work,” she said. She asserted that the state knew very well how to deal with disruptive elements. Calling in the army or Rangers to maintain law and order was the right of every province. She questioned how interim bail could last for over a year and why cases filed in one province are being granted bail in another. “The judiciary should ensure that love for individuals does not overshadow the love for the country,” she said.
