KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday remanded a man in police custody in a case pertaining to killing his wife in the name of ‘honour’ while she was sleeping. The investigating officer, Ghulam Asghar, brought the suspect — Ali Hasan Sheikh — before the judicial magistrate (Malir), seeking a 14-day physical remand for further investigation. During the hearing, the IO informed the court that the suspect had beheaded his wife and before that he had attacked her with a hammer while she was asleep on the night of the incident. The IO further stated that the suspect was repeatedly changing his statement, showing evasive behaviour. He added that the suspect’s criminal record needed verification and requested his custody to complete the interrogation. The IO further stated that the weapons used in the crime, including the hammer and a knife, had been seized. After hearing the IO’s request, the court remanded him in police custody for five days and directed the IO to produce the suspect at the next hearing along with a progress report. According to the FIR, the complainant informed the police that he received a call from the concerned police station, they told him that his sister had been murdered by her husband. He further stated that his brother-in-law told him that when he returned from his workplace he saw a man leaving his house. He further stated that he had suspicions about character of his wife and on the day of the incident in a fit of anger he attacked his wife initially with a hammer while she was sleeping and later he beheaded her with a knife.
