Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design comes to Karachi

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has inaugurated the Karachi chapter of the Lahore-based Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD). An inauguration ceremony was held on Monday evening at the historic Mohatta Palace, where Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, representatives of fashion industry, members of the civil society and leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan were also present. The Karachi chapter of the prestigious institution, which is set to become operational by February 2025, will provide local students increased access to specialised fashion and design education. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Siddiqui, who is also the chairman of the MQM-P, underscored the role of creative education in driving economic growth and societal transformation. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui promises to bring campuses of 12 universities to the metropolis He highlighted the importance of trade, fashion, and design for Pakistan’s future. “This milestone event celebrated PIFDs expansion into Karachi, with a mission to promote education in fashion and design for a brighter future.” He said that over 12 prominent universities from across Pakistan would soon be launching campuses in the commercial hub of the country. “PIFD will soon be operational and we are going to witness a new era through the launching of campuses of prominent education institutes in Karachi.” He appreciated the efforts of PIFD Vice Chancellor Professor Hina Tayyab Khalil and her entire team for bringing the institute to the metropolis. The minister emphasised that the government’s recent initiatives reflect Pakistan’s commitment to progress, especially in making quality education accessible across the country. “Pakistan is on the right path towards development, and the launching of campuses of more educational institutions in Karachi highlights our nation’s dedication to fostering knowledge and learning,” remarked Dr Siddiqui. Speaking on the occasion, the Sindh governor said Pakistan is going to achieve more economic stability. “We all have to make joint efforts to make the country stronger and economically stable,” he added. In his address, Higher Education Commission chairman Prof Mukhtar Ahmed expressed his full support and cooperation to the PIFD. “The society also needs the education of arts and fashion,” he added. Earlier, the PIFD vice chancellor presented an introduction and achievements of the institute. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a fashion show.
