SUKKUR: A grand jirga chaired by Pakistan Peoples Party leaders and influential chieftains of Jatoi clan at Sukkur Circuit House the other day imposed an aggregate of Rs22 million blood money on two warring groups of Mahar and Jatoi tribes for the murder of seven people in tit for tat revenge attacks. The jirga, jointly presided over by PPP’s Ali Gohar Khan Mahar, Ghous Bakhsh Mahar, Mir Abid Jatoi and Ibrahim Jatoi along with elders of both the clans, heard the two sides and concluded that Jatoi clansmen were guilty of killing four Mahar men and a woman, and Mahar tribesmen were involved in the murder of two men and abduction of a woman belonging to Jatoi clan. The jirga fixed Rs2.5 million each as blood money for the murder of a man, Rs5 million for the murder of a woman and Rs2 million as penalty for the abduction of a woman. Both the sides accepted the verdict and agreed to pay the blood money. The jirga warned that either side found in violation of the verdict or guilty of restarting the clash, would be fined Rs2.5 million penalty.
