KARACHI: A young man and woman were shot dead on Thursday night in Lyari’s old city area, reportedly over free will marriage, police said. Napier SHO Fida Mohammed Khan told Dawn that the victim couple had hired a rickshaw from Dolmen Mall in Clifton. When they reached near Mawa Shah mosque in Lyari, two suspects riding on a motorcycle emerged there and opened fire on them. As a result, Attaullah, 25, died on the spot while the woman died during treatment at the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. The SHO said that relatives of Attaullah had contacted the police to claim the bodies, adding that initial investigations suggest that the couple had married of their own free will in their hometown, Bajaur, and the killing appear to be linked to that. He said that the couple had been staying at a hotel in Lyari.
