Acid attack suspect on physical remand

SAHIWAL: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Special Judge Ziaullah Khan on Thursday allowed a five-day physical remand of the suspect, who had forced a 16-year-old girl to drink acid-spiked liquid over rejection of his marriage proposal on Wednesday at 90/6-R village. The ATC handed over the suspect, Usman, on physical remand to Farid Town police, fixing Nov 12 as the next date for hearing. Meanwhile, on the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who took notice of the incident, Women Protection Authority chairperson Hina Pervaiz Butt, visited the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Wednesday night and inquired after the victim, Kausar Parveen. Ms Butt also met with the family family of the victim and assured them that justice would be done.The doctors told Dawn that hopefully the victim would be shifted to the medical ward from the ICU within two to three days. As per police, the suspect committed the brutal act in revenge after the victim’s parents rejected his marriage proposal. Meanwhile, in another case, a judicial magistrate gave two-day physical remand of two rape suspects- Akram and Salik, to the Civil Lines police. The suspects are being interrogated for alleged rape of a female security guard at a public sector university, that denies the rape incident.
